Call for Applications

CIRCA Student Advisory Committee

The Center for the Integrative Research in Conflict Archaeology (CIRCA) is pleased to announce a Call for Applications for the CIRCA Student Advisory Committee.

CIRCA is seeking 3–5 students to serve on this committee. Members will serve a three-year volunteer term and will play an active role in helping CIRCA develop programs and opportunities that support and engage the next generation of conflict archaeologists.

Committee Goals and Activities

The Student Advisory Committee will work with CIRCA leadership to:

Organize a student session and reception at the next Fields of Conflict Conference
Promote CIRCA and the Fields of Conflict Conference within student communities
Organize conference practice and preparation sessions for students
Identify and develop resources, programs, and activities that benefit students
Provide student perspectives and recommendations to CIRCA leadership

This is an opportunity for students to become actively involved in the development of CIRCA while building professional connections and gaining experience in academic and professional service.

Eligibility

Applicants must be:

Currently enrolled at least part-time in an undergraduate or graduate program; or
Preparing to enroll in an undergraduate or graduate program in the near future and intending to become an active student in the field.
Or within 1 year of graduation

Students from a range of academic backgrounds are encouraged to apply, particularly those with an interest in conflict archaeology, historical archaeology, battlefield archaeology, military history, or related fields.

What CIRCA Provides

In recognition of their service, CIRCA Advisors receive a professional affiliation with CIRCA, a CIRCA email address, and an academic and professional home base within the organization for scholars who may not currently have a university affiliation.

Conference Steering Committee

CIRCA is looking to provide infrastructure and support for future conferences. This partnership will enable us to:

Maintain a Centralized Website: Host the official conference site on the CIRCA platform, so venue, schedule, and registration details remain in one permanent location year after year.

Manage Communications: Maintain the attendee email registry to ensure timely updates (with an option to unsubscribe at any time).

Conference Email: We have already drafted a new email for Fields of Conflict – foc@conflictarchaeology.org. This email address will carry over from conference to conference ensuring attendees always know how to reach conference organizers, no one misses an email about the next conference, and this list of contacts does not need to be rebuilt for each conference.

Provide Financial Support: Manage a dedicated bank account for conference funds to assist future hosts with initial expenses, such as venue deposits, prior to the opening of registration.

A conference organizers rotate, they will gain access to this infrastructure which will assist with hosting, communication and expenses. Through this we aim to create a support network for organizers to make hosting less intimidating and more open to folks from smaller institutions.

Fields of Conflict XIV & XV (2028 & 2030):

We wish to start the planning process for the next two meetings of Fields of Conflict as soon as possible. To guide this process, CIRCA is forming a Conference Steering Committee to take on oversight of the conference (not hosting the conference). We are seeking 3 to 5 individuals to serve three-year terms.

Committee Responsibilities:

· Review and approve future conference locations (our goal is to select hosts for both 2028 and 2030).

· Establish guidelines for the management and distribution of conference trust funds.

· Offer guidance and mentorship to current local organizing committees.

· Create conference guidelines on what it takes to host a conference.

Securing locations for both 2028 and 2030 in advance will allow prospective attendees to plan their travel budgets early, help hosts secure funding with longer lead times and allow for continued growth for the conference.

CIRCA Advisory Board

The Center for the Integrative Research in Conflict Archaeology (CIRCA) is pleased to announce that we are accepting applications for our Advisory Board.

CIRCA is seeking scholars and professionals at all career stages who are interested in helping us build and shape an innovative research center dedicated to advancing the study of conflict archaeology.

Advisory Board members will serve a three-year, unpaid, non-voting term and will work with CIRCA leadership to help develop the organization, support our research community, and strengthen opportunities for collaboration and mentorship.

Advisory Board Goals and Activities

Advisory Board members may contribute their expertise and experience by:

Helping CIRCA develop and expand its programs and research initiatives
Providing mentorship and professional guidance to CIRCA Research Fellows
Advising on the needs and priorities of the broader conflict archaeology community
Contributing expertise in areas relevant to CIRCA’s growth and mission
Supporting networking and collaboration among scholars and professionals
Helping CIRCA develop resources and opportunities for emerging researchers
